Superjoint Ritual recorded some songs in the early nineties but it wasn’t until 2003 that they became a full fledged band. Having turned his back on Pantera, lead throat Philip Anselmo dove head first into SJR and nearly killed himself in the drug induced, alcohol infused process. With Phil on vocals, Jimmy Bower (EyeyHateGod, Crowbar) on guitar, Joe Fazzio on drums,  Kevin Bond on guitar and Hank Williams III on bass, SJR was a take no prisoners band that was as intense with their music as they were self destructive in their lifestyles(at the time).

 This album (their follow-up to 2002’s ‘Use Once And Destroy’) is raw, it’s real,  it’s flawed, it’s spit-your-face punk, it’s bash-your-head-into-a-wall thrash, it’s pure mean street fucking metal that has NO compromise and NO remorse whatsoever, blending hardcore and metal together like few have ever been able to do! I had the pleasure of seeing these guys live on the tour for this album and let me tell you; it is still to this day, the most intense and brutal live performances I have ever seen, and let me tell you, I have seen a lot of crazy shows. If there is one thing that SJR can proudly be remembered for, it’s bringing a true metal show back, in a time where shows were severally stale and lame.

 SJR disbanded in 2004, going down in infamy as the band that nearly destroyed the lives of all involved but they are a band that made a statement, made their mark on music history and what more could you ask for than that! If you like aggressive, fast metal with a dash of hardcore and punk, then SJR is a band you should definitely check out!
